The CPU-1421 is a low-power 5x86 class PC/104-Plus computer based on the AMD™ Élan™ SC520 133MHz processor. This headless embedded CPU board includes 64MB of soldered SDRAM, four (4) serial ports (2 RS-232, 2 RS-232/422/485), two (2) 10/100MBps Fast Ethernet controllers, a bi-directional EPP/ECP parallel port, EIDE hard drive interface, speaker port, AT keyboard and PS/2 mouse interfaces, real-time clock, watchdog timer, and two additional 16-bit counter/timers free for the user.

Conforming to the space-saving PC/104-Plus specification (3.550" x 3.775"), the CPU-1421 offers very low power consumption (4.6W), no moving parts (passive cooling), and is software compatible with Windows®, ROM-DOS, QNX®, VxWork®, PSOS, and Linux®, making it ideally suited for a wide range of aviation, industrial, medical, military, and transportation applications. The module’s IDE enables CompactFlash®, ATA Flash, and 2.5" IDE-Flash disks to be implemented as rugged hard drives for user program and data files.

Its embedded BIOS is reprogrammable onboard and located in 1MB of Flash EPROM with 256KB for the BIOS and its extensions and 768KB available for a read-only disk or storing OS/program files. Set-up parameters are also saved in Flash to enable the module to operate without a battery and avoid set up corruption in the field.

Customers implementing Ethernet functionality should purchase the corresponding accessory adapters, which provide a panel-mountable RJ-45 jack and Ethernet transceiver for use with the board’s two RTL8139 Fast Ethernet controllers. The RTL8139 features 32-bit performance, 10/100MBps auto-sensing, PCI bus master capability, and full compliance with IEE-802.3u 100BaseT specifications and IEEE 802.3x Full Duplex Flow Control.
